Home Week 7

15/12/2008 - 21/12/2008

Days 115 - 121

Tuesday 16/12. Today we went back to Charing Cross hospital to see the surgeon. Mr Mendoza. We went through the Mri scans on the pc and Margaret was fascinated with the First one taken of the massive clot. Margaret wants to put in an order for some copies.

Will scan them in if we get them.

Margaret was given the all clear by the surgeon.

We then went shopping in the new Westfield centre opposite the BBC studios in Shepherds Bush. It only opened a few weeks ago and was surprisingly quiet. Getting closer to Christmas.

Tuesday night was the final session with Emma the speech therapist. Many thanks for her help and we may see her again next year.

Margaret is continuing with Kinga at the West Mid Hospitals and is getting plenty of homework to keep her going over the holidays.

Christopher is over for his work and also his Staff Party on Thursday night when he is staying in London.

Wednesday 17Th: Lisa and Sam Norton visited from work today. Margaret enjoyed the visit and a chance to catch up and the interaction with other people.

Margaret is still keeping up her exercises and showing a lot of improvement. She is very persistent.

I had sent half a dozen letters out with Christmas cards this week to inform some friends and relations about Margaret's condition.

Many thanks to Collette-Anne Geddes and Joe Farrell for their kind and supportive responses.

Home Week 6

8/12/2008 - 14/12/2008

Days 108 - 114

Another week at the office. Margaret's motivation is not yet waning. If anything her determination and drive to get herself back to normality is increasing.

Her exercise regime goes on for most of the day. She will do her arm stretching and leg exercises each morning but constantly works on the arm, rubbing and flexing the shoulder, elbow and fingers to keep them supple. She can now raise her arm to about 11 o'clock, which is a great feat.

Sometimes she feels her speech is going backwards. I believe it is more down to the fact that as the brain matter itself has been healing then her full vocabulary has returned but she still has to remember that although she now knows what words she wishes to say she tries to speak too quickly and stumbles on occasion.

I still think she needs to make more contact with others every day to practice her speech. While she does her 'homework' there is no feedback or others to interact with. Have told her that she must speak with someone else each day, whether it is by going to the garage or shops, or calling someone just for a quick chat.

Chris and Celeine were in New York this week so could not get an update on Sarah's baby, hopefully he will update this for me during the week.

We put the decorations up this week-end. Roll on Christmas.

Next week it is physio on Monday, to the hospital on Tuesday to see the consultant, Emma's last visit for speech therapy on Tuesday night, a visit from Lisa and Stella from work on Wednesday afternoon, the West Mid for therapy on Thursday and back to the GP on Friday to have her blood pressure checked.

5 minutes with nothing to do, give Margaret a call....

BABY NEWS

Congratulations

Congratulations to Celeine's sister's youngest daughter, Sarah, who gave birth to a baby boy at 2:02am on Saturday 6th of December 2008.

Callum Edmund Ince-O'Keefe weighed in at 5lb 15oz and both mother, father (Ciaran) and baby were surprisingly well.

In the couple of days following the birth Callum suffered from low levels of blood sugar and was kept in the hospital so he could be given high-glucose fluids. He was released into the care of his mother on Thursday 11th and since being home is doing extremely well.

Here is a short video of Callum, taken about 15 hours after birth, in the arms of doting Aunt Celeine (really she is a Great-Aunt, but don't say that too loudly - I suppose that makes me a Great-Uncle!).

Best wishes to Sarah, Ciaran and all their families.

- Chris

Home Week 5

01/12/2008 - 7/12/2008

Days 101 - 107

Advent Calender

On Monday Barbara Steele came to visit. Barbara is on a visit from Offally, Ireland. We have known Barbara for about 20 years since we moved to London. Barbara kept Margaret entertained for the afternoon while I was at work. I got a reprise of the news about Ladbrokes people who we used to work with. It was fun to catch up if a little bitter sweet. Half the names mentioned had died and the other half were Directors of divisions, some with other bookmakers.

Wednesday was a busy day. The physio came in the morning to take Margaret through her paces. In the afternoon Sam Mumby came from Bupa, with the usual entrance fee of a bottle of wine, to see how Margaret was doing and anything the company could do at present.
In the evening Emma came for her speech therapy session.

Thursday was the visit to West Mid for a session with Kinga. I was banished for this session. I think my snoring disturbed them the last time.

Friday Happy 40Th Jason Cook. Margaret had her first night out. We went to the Harrow pub for a little celebration. We stayed for an hour and a half, half bottle of wine and some excellent Asian snacks, we took Joseph home with us for the night.

Saturday was hairdresser day. Mandy Hawkett from work came over to give Margaret's hair a trim and tidy up. Mandy had commented on how much Margaret had come on in the three weeks since her visit to work. As I have probably said before, it is more difficult for me to notice the subtle changes on a daily basis although her right arm movement is more pronounced now along with shrugging her shoulder ans able to raise the arm to almost full extension above her head.

Home Week 4

24/11/2008 - 28/11/2008

Days 94-100

Margaret is progressing well.

She has had a lot more telephone conversations this week and is using her diary for appointments.

The physiotherapist came on Wednesday for the first time and took Margaret through her paces. She also showed Margaret how best to get up off the ground should the need arise. She will be returning next week with the occupational therapist.

Speech therapy is 2 sessions a week up until Christmas when the private sessions will stop. Hopefully Margaret will be confident enough by then to go for extra sessions by bus and also to the Therapy centre in Hounslow for some group sessions.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY's

Happy birthday to Mum who is 80 this week. Margaret is dissapointed that she cannot be there to join in the festivities.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY - Geraldine 50 ssssshhhhhhhhhhhh dont tell anyone.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY - Anne - ?? - somewhere in between

Home Week 3

17/11/2008 to 21/11/2008

Days 87 - 91

Margaret is settling in to a more familiar routine.

Sleeping patterns are now regulated and she gets up about 8:15 to 8:30. Has some breakfast cereal followed by toast and marmalade. I adapted a wooden cheeseboard and put some wooden stoppers down two sides with a corner gap so she finds it easier to spread butter etc.

Most nights now she will prepare the evening meal and set the table for dinner.

Some days she will go up to the garage or just walk around the block for exercise on the leg and to keep fit. On friday she made the trip to ASDA with her trolley to do a little shopping. I think she was exhilerated by the experience although she was very tired afterwards as the trip took about 1.5 hours in total.

Speech therapy is coming on. Currently she is having two sessions per week, one with Emma which is private at home, this will last another two weeks. Kinga at the West Middlesex is on a weekly basis but once Margaret masters the local busses she can go more often. Treatment here is only limited to access and is ongoing.

Give me a call

Margaret is reluctant as yet to join any support groups. I feel that she does not get enough external contact or stimulus especially to help her conversation skills. If you can, give her a call, may want to co-ordinate days and times. Better times are 12:30 to 1:00 before her nap and probably 3: to 4:pm.

I find it difficult now to discern progress on a daily basis so you may want to comment on your conversations. Cheers

Home Week 2

Friday 14/11/2008 Day 84

Margaret had her first trip up to the garage for a few provisions. Hopefully this is the first steps to her own dependence.

Thursday 13/11/2008 Day 83

Marie went home this morning. I have taken the day off so that I can take Marie to the Airport and we also have our first appointment at the West Middlesex hospital this afternoon.

Many thanks to Marie for her help this week.

It was a straightforward trip to the hospital, just over 20 minutes without pushing too hard. Kinga, the therapist was most welcoming and I think Margaret will do well with her. She also stated that there was no specific timescales for Margaret's treatment so she can have two or three sessions a week if needed.Margaret opted for just one for the following week, Thursday again at 4pm so I can leave work earlier to transport her there until she feels comfortable in taking the bus.

Wednesday 12/11/2008 Day 82

Today they walked down to the shopping centre which took about 20+ minutes. They tried out Margaret's trolley for the first time. I don't think they quite got the hang of it. It was supposed to be for convenience to store a few goods to transport rather than seeing how much they could get in it.

The few hours out plus the 20 minute trek back took it out of her and she was shattered by early evening. Although Margaret is at home it takes a lot of energy working and moving around the house.

Tuesday 11/11/2008 Day 81

Nicola picked up Margaret and Marie into Staines in the afternoon for some shopping and I picked them up after work to take them home.

Monday 10/11/2008 Day 80

Home Alone

This was the first day Margaret had to manage on her own. It seems to have gone well. Margaret spent the afternoon preparing dinner.

I met Marie at the airport, eventually. After 1.5 hours of being moved on from the drop zone she eventually arrived. Nicola and Joseph then came over for Pasta Sauce. First time for 3 months and it was wonderful.

Home Week 1

New Format. Will now use a weekly format and enter against each day as appropriate so you may need to visit several times or at the end of a week.

Friday 7 /11/2008 Day 77

Shopping trip.
We had another visit to the shopping centre. Hope Marie likes chicken.

It has been a long week for Margaret, although there has not been the therapy sessions she would have got in the hospital, but getting about the kitchen and up and down the stairs along with the outdoor trips have been taking their toll and Margaret was very tired today.

Have been trying out the TENS machine on the arm and it seems to help stimulate the nerve ends. There seems to be a lot of free movement in the fingers. I am sure it wont be long till she is back playing the piano.

Thursday 6/11/2008 Day 76

Back to work

Margaret took a giant step forward today as we made a visit to the workplace. We first visited ThamesSide House and it was quite an emotional encounter with her friends and colleagues. Kal had obviously seen her several times but the rest were astounded by how well she looked and the obvious progress she had made. I think that they were also relieved at the visit as they could see for themselves how she was and could see the possibility of having their Margaret back again, especially with her sense of humour as she took great delight in recanting the tale, again and again, about my floor washing episode.

It was the same in Cedar House and for once it was as much a relief for me. I have to constantly reassure everyone of Margaret's progress so I can have a little relief from repeating the tale. I am sure they will still ask from time to time.

It will be interesting to see the changes by Christmas.

Wednesday 5/11/2008 Day 75

Margaret decided it was time for a tidy up. So, guess who moved all the furniture and got down on their hands and knees to rub and scrub and wipe and polish and sparkle the floor....yes you know whats coming... Margaret got me to do it. Guess what I did not miss a bit being supervised by obergruppenfurher-mags.

In the afternoon we went up to Bedfont for a walkabout and a little shopping. We bought a trolley thingy for Margaret to go to the shops on her own to buy a few bits and pieces if needed and it is light and easy to manoeuver. We had a little practice around Budgens and she managed very well. On Saturday she will be going up to the garage to get a newspaper and put on the Lottery, maybe our luck will change.

We had a call from Hounslow Speech Therapy and an initial appointment has been made for next Thursday the 13th. We will need to work out how Margaret gets there on her own.

Tuesday 4/11/2008 Day 74

First little scare today. Margaret had got down on the floor to wipe up a spillage on the floor and then discovered that she was unable to get back up on to her feet. No matter which way we tried she was not able to get up on her own. Will need to work on something.

Eventually got through to social services only to be told that Margaret was put on the priority list sent by the Wellington on 23rd October but would still be another couple of weeks before treatment could begin.

Contacted Emma Gale to arrange some private speech therapy for the next couple of weeks until the community rehab kicks in, this is a separate dept from above.

Monday 3/11/2008 Day 73

Day off today. we decided that we would just get familiar with the surroundings and work out things that need to be adjusted or find alternative ways of doing things.

Margaret worked out how to put the oven on. She has to hold the gas nob in with her hip while using the igniter with her free hand.

We went down to the shops for a walk around and Margaret is getting more comfortable in a crowded situation. We were looking for a jacket/ coat that buttons down the front as it is not possible as yet for Margaret to hold the zipper with the right hand and she needs to be able to get properly dressed to go out, when I am at work.

Day 72 Sunday 2nd November 2008

Home Day 2

Sunday lovely Sunday

Firstly apologies for the following statement.

It was as Margaret now says, NICE. Nice to have a quiet peaceful day. Friday and Saturday were wonderful days with all the family but I think we needed the rest and tranquility.

We had a quiet morning and watched X-Factor from the previous night then went a walk up to the garage to get the papers.

Margaret is having a great time running up and down the stairs with her new hand rail.

I managed a day without, washing and ironing or even shopping. How long will it last?

Day 71 Saturday 1st November 2008

HOME Day 1

Happy Birthday Rory

Rory is 13 today.

We all met in Staines to get Rory his presents. Possibly with the credit crunch a bit of bartering took place. Joseph 7, has an XBox 360 hard drive which he rarely uses and Rory wanted one so a deal was made for a contribution to be made to help Joseph and Santa hopefully get him a Wii for Christmas. Rory also got an extra controller from Nicola and a game from grandma and I. I must admit that these type of games are beyond me.

Later that evening we went to the Gurka, a fusion buffet style of Chinese, Thai and Indian.

My thanks to everyone.

Margaret and I went home while everyone else went to Nicola's for some fireworks. Rory et al, has missed them as they are banned in Ireland in enclosed gardens. When Rory lived here he thought the fireworks were a part of his birthday celebrations before he knew about Guy Fawkes.

Chris and Celeine are back to Dublin tomorrow.

Our new normality begins tomorrow.

Day 70 Friday 31st October 2008

Wellington day 44 - FINAL DAY

The end of the beginning- goodbye

Margaret completed her schedules for the day and got her final instructions from the Therapists. There is no doubt that Margaret had a good bond with the therapists and it appeared that she was well liked with the staff. It may also have been that the majority of the patients were male and we all know what difficult patients men make. Also I think they were encouraged by the progress Margaret made and got satisfaction in helping her make as good a recovery as possible.

Time to pack up. Easier said than done. Despite taking home a large bag full of clothes I struggled to get everything into a suitcase plus three large carrier bags. Struggling downstairs we eventually left at 5:10pm right in the middle of the Friday rush hour traffic. We kept updating home with a prospective arrival time as everyone was waiting to eat.

Halloween

As we pulled into the street we stopped to chat to Brennagh, Rory and Joseph who were out 'Trick or Treating' We eventually pulled in at 6:30pm. The house was decorated for the evening with other children doing the rounds. We had a really good night with baked potatoes, chili,2 types, cheese, coleslaw etc, etc, plus a few beers.

Thank You

I would like to say thank you to everyone who had prepared for Margaret's home coming. As they say in the reality shows: In no particular Order: well alpabetically:

Brennagh: Celeine: Christopher: Jason: Joseph: Nicola and Rory

Day 69 Thursday 30th October 2008

Wellington Day 43

Last chance saloon

Christopher was at work today in town and Celeine, Brennagh and Rory flew in from Dublin for a few days.

Celeine had her hands full as she was also bringing Joseph back from his half term break with them. As usual they arrived early for their flights, 7.00am, only to have the flights delayed and they did not arrive into Heathrow until 1:30pm

Celeine then went up to the hospital with Brennagh and Rory and were joined by Christopher and they went out to the Sofira? restaurant for dinner. They thought it was Greek, but found out it was Turkish, anyway Margaret and Rory had Pizza. They had a lovely time and Margaret was a little tired by the time they returned at 9:00pm

A lot of the nursing staff came to say goodbye today as they were going to be off or starting a late shift on Friday when Margaret will have left.

P.S. I had the leftover half a Subway sandwich from the fridge. That will teach me to have another night off.

Thursday, October 30, 2008

Day 68 - Wednesday 29th October 2008

Wellington day 42

Chatterbox

Margaret was in a real chatty mood today. She had been out for her controlled walk around the town then had coffee at one of the cafe's with Lisa M and discussed Life the Universe and Everything.

She said she had a really good chat about her treatment prior to coming to the Wellington and can see now the shortfalls with the service. I have tasked her to write her own BLOG at a page per day on her experiences.

She also had an enjoyable group session discussing football. She seems to be enjoying the interaction with the other patients.

I had a telephone chat earlier with Lisa M re outpatient treatment. She is still trying to co-ordinate the various o/p departments as they seem to be specialties at different hospitals. She will give me a list of departments and contacts.

I have confirmed that I will be at home next week and thanks to Bupa for giving me the time. I should then be able to ferry Margaret to any appointments and oversee her rehab in the home environment.

Tuesday, October 28, 2008

Day 67 Tuesday 28th October 2008

Wellington Day 41

Stairway to Heaven

The 'man from the council' came today to install the hand rail. After deciding it was a cavity wall the installation operative decided that he needed to go and get special fittings. Returning 40 Min's later he fitted a support rail with uprights screwed to the steps rather than on the wall.

It seemed alright at the time but on reflection it is a little ugly. It does not match the other supports on the opposite side as they are square and stained mahogany and the new one has white supports with a pale pine round rail. Will try staining it all one colour and see it it blends any better. However it will serve the purpose and I am sure that after a few months Margaret will not need it and it can be easily dismantled and sent back.

Margaret was pleased with the news and confirmed that all the therapists were geared up for her release now and would be doing their final reports on Thursday. Hopefully Margaret will remember to get Lisa M the SLT Therapist to call me tomorrow to discuss ongoing treatment.

Day 66 Monday 27th October 2008

Wellington Day 40

Was it something I said

Tonight was a reminder if I needed one of how things could be taken for granted. I had spoken to Margaret about being careful with things and that opened the floodgates. She made me aware of the fact that no matter how she tried at some things she just could not do some things. Dr Sharma chose that time to visit and Margaret told him that she was feeling sorry for herself and asking 'why me'

Dr Sharma said it was no surprise as to how she was feeling. The only surprise was that it had taken so long to come about. He assured her that her position compared to the norm was quite spectacular. He has quite a few patients at present with various age ranges from teenagers upwards and some of the younger ones are progressing very slowly and even in wheelchairs after a year. He said it did not diminish Margaret's feelings but reassured her that he felt that she would make a nearly full recovery with the leg, 90%+ functionality with the arm and hand and the speech will only suffer from the odd missed word and will probably go unnoticed.

I was also reassured by the Doctors words but did also find it difficult as I told Margaret, as she said earlier, that I also wished we could wake up one morning and hope that it was all a dream and that I was sorry I could not make it go away but can only help her get better.

While we all celebrate each small victory and sometimes larger steps, it does come at a price in her hard work and endless frustration combined with being istitutionalised.

Still only four more sleeps to hometime.

Rota W/C 27.10.2008

LAST WEEK ?

At the moment the rota seems to be a little sparse compared to previous weeks.

I would not be surprised if extra sessions are slotted in. Possibly Thursday afternoon is when all the final reports will be done, then hopefully home on Friday evening

Days 63-64-65

Friday-Saturday-Sunday

Nearly Normal- Friday 24Th

Week-end leave started early. I left Staines at 4:00pm and drove straight to the hospital. luckily I got a parking space right outside the hospital and was there at 5:20pm

Margaret was packed up and ready to go and we headed out into the rush hour, half term traffic.

We arrived home at 7:00 and Christopher had prepared a lovely meal of Lamb with roast potatoes, parsnips and sweet potatoes followed by apple pie and cream. We all really enjoyed it.

Saturday 25th

Nicola and Joseph came to visit in the morning and Nicola took Margaret down to the coffe shop. I set a dangerous precedent of giving her £10 pocket money, which she promptly spent on pillows and jars of coffee.

We then had the healty option brunch. Sausage, bacon, black pudding and haggis, done in the oven so no greasy plates for me to wash. Supplied by Christopher, again.

Visitors from the outside world.

In the afternoon, Lisa Cullen with baby Jack, 15 months and Stella Risk with 10 month old Lola came for a visit. Margaret really enjoyed the visit and the interaction. i think the visitors were really surprised by how well Margaret is doing.

In the evening we all went to Nicola's for a Pizza night. Jason prepared some salsa dip, which as usual could strip wallpaper with. The man needs to look up mild or slightly spicy in the dictionary.

Joseph asked uncle Chris to have a sleepover. I have yet to hear where he slept, probably with ginger the hampster.

Sunday 26th

After a seemingly long lie in, who for got to turn all the clocks back then. We had a lazy morning. Christopher had flown back to Dublin with Joseph and I then made the rest of the sausages etc. into a fry up.

We went back down to the shops in the afternoon for some ingredients to make crispy cakes in her Occupational Therapy session later in the week.

I got off lightly again by being able to cook the rest of the Lamb etc for dinner which was lovely.

Margaret decided to stay at home to watch 'Strictly Results' so we did not leave the house until after eight o'clock and arrived at the hospital just before nine. I wish it was always that easy.

Friday, October 24, 2008

Day 62 Thursday 23rd October 2008

Wellington Day 36

A Grand Day Out

Your task should you choose to accept it is:

Go down the high st on your own and count the number of shoe shops.. really hard task I don't think.

Go into the post office and find out what time they close

Go into Boots and ask about contact lenses

Then the Library to find out how to join.

These tasks were completed under distant supervision and Margaret completed them all. This is giving her confidence to be out with other people.

Margaret has good linguistic skills but numeracy is causing her a problem.

She knows the time, but saying twenty past or ten to is problematic. Also she can give you change from £10. IE £10-£3.60 = £6.40 but has difficulty with adding 16 + 14... So there are some compartments still to be opened. At least she will not give all our money away.

Thursday, October 23, 2008

Day 61 Wednesday 22nd October 2008

Wellington Day 35

How am I doing?

Christopher flew in today and will be staying until Sunday morning when, hopefully, he will fly back to Dublin with Joseph for a few days.

Margaret had some group sessions today and met other patients. There were varying abilities within the group and Margaret seemed to enjoy the interaction, especially talking about Manchester United from the football match the night before.

Dr. Sharma called in and said that he had been speaking to the doctor at Bupa and from all the reports he has received from all the medical staff at the hospital was able to tell them that Margaret is doing 'spectacularly well'.

Everyone is so pleased at the progress she is making. Margaret is now determined to leave as soon as the end of next week. She does know that she will not receive the abundance of treatment as an outpatient but feels that by that time it will have been 10 weeks and its time to go home.

At present we are just waiting for confirmation from the medical staff and also need to have the house alterations in place. We'll see

Tuesday, October 21, 2008

Day 60 Tuesday 21st October 2008

Wellington Day 34

Paying the Piper

Nicola joined me for today's trip and we found Margaret quite tired but none the less very chatty.. She had been worked hard during the day and had a late session in the Hydro pool.

She is still finding the right arm problematic. They are working on the fingers and trying to get some co-ordination. It is a strain for her, but you can see how hard she is trying.

The recommendation for this weekend will be for Margaret to come home on the Friday evening. I said I will pick her up AFTER dinner, and to order some for me as the traffic is going to be very heavy at that time of night.

Christopher is coming over on Wednesday night so he can have the pleasure of getting up and making breakfast on the Saturday while I have a lie in....shh don't tell him

Day 59 Monday 20th October 2008

Wellington Day 33

Work Work Work

This week sees if anything an increase in the intensity of Margaret's work. Everyone is working towards her 'release' within the fortnight. Margaret is aware that she will not get anywhere near the intensity of therapy treatment as an outpatient and has to make the most of the next 10 days or so.

I had a talk with a company called ABLE2 who are acting on behalf of Hounslow council. They have been in touch with Lisa the OT at the hospital and have agreed in principle to the recommendations that Lisa had compiled on Friday and will contact me with planned installations.

Margaret obviously had such a relaxing weekend that she said she was up snacking to 11 pm. I told her she will need to work hard to keep her weight down.

Sunday, October 19, 2008

Days 57 & 58 Sat & Sun 18th & 19Th October 2008

Le Weekend

Saturday 18th

Nicola went to pick up Margaret on Saturday morning which gave me a long lie in bed.

The rest did not last long as I got a phone call about 1pm to say that the traffic had been very busy and that they were due to arrive in 10 mins and they were starving and to get the kettle on and the frying pan out.

So we had a fry-up for lunch, the usual sausage, bacon, eggs and fried bread with beans. Unfortunately no blak or fruit pudding or potato scones.

After a nap it was time for tea. Well some scones, jam and genuine devon clotted cream.

For dinner it was a home tikka masala with nan bread.

Then it was time for Strictly followed by X-Factor. Margaret was then sent to bed without supper.

Sunday 19th

Margaret also had the luxury of a lie in. She usually has to get up about 7:30 but she did not get up until 9:30. She tried out her new Bath board and had a shower. The instructions state that the handle should be on the outside edge of the bath. However we dont know you are supposed to get on to the board without getting the thrill of a lifetime.Answers and drawings on a postcard please.
We had a trip out in the afternoon and even managed to do some shopping at Asda. She made me buy healthy food like peas although she made sure that she got her chocolate snacks for the hospital.
New Hair Do

She decided that the blond hairs coming through were not for her so we had a makeover. My talents are endless.

Rota w/c 20.10.2008

Day 56 Friday 17th October 2008

Wellington Day 30

Home visit Assessment

Margaret made a home visit with Lisa, the therapist.

This was to see how Margaret will function around the home environment. The stairs are the obvious problem area. Margaret showed off her prowess around the house and was making light of the tasks. She was able to get into the bath with the aid of a board so will be easier to have her daily shower. I have subsequently purchased a board for home so this will make it easier.

Getting in and out of the house proven no problem. Other areas to help will be grip mats in the kitchen to make it easier and safer to use utensils and prevent slippage.

Lisa has taken her recommendations and will contact community rehab to see what they can do for us. Have pit plans in place to have a handrail fitted if they delay installation

Margaret is looking forward to her home stay tomorrow.

Day 55 Thursday 16th October 2008

Wellington day 29

No news today

More Hydrotherapy today. This really helps with the right shoulder, which is the only area that is really painful to use.

She now takes herself down to the Therapy room for her morning sessions. Plenty of exercises on the stairs which will help her at home.

All is well and moving forward.

Wednesday, October 15, 2008

Day 54 Wednesday 15th October 2008

Wellington Day 28

Getting There

Its getting to the stage where it is getting more and more difficult to come up with something interesting to say.

Today is one of those days.

I took the train and the tube today, it was relaxing, the only danger is that I fall asleep on the way home and end up in Reading a couple of hours later.

There is a Case Conference tomorrow so there may be a discussion on a possible release date. At present we are trying to liaise with the council regarding an outpatient plan and any home improvements that may be needed. In the meantime I will be getting a second handrail fitted next week to move things along.

Day 53 Tuesday 14th October 2008

Wellington Day 27

Water Works

Margaret got back into the Hydro pool today. This is helping greatly with her right shoulder. She is due for another session on Friday.

We spent some time on english homework. The vocabulary is being expanded and Margaret is doing very well

Each day is an improvement, although I still cannot convince her that doing the ironing is the best therapy she can get for her right arm..will keep trying

Tuesday, October 14, 2008

Day 52 - Monday 13th Oct 2008

Wellington Day 26

What a difference a day makes.

Margaret was the talk of the 6th floor after her week-end escapades.

She was far more relaxed today and CHATTY, I could not stop her. I had to tell her to stop at one point. Her conversational skills are improving .

Lisa, the Therapist is coming on Friday to do a home assessment and I believe that Margaret will be coming along for the ride.

The only problem with that is that Margaret will make Aggie & Kim seem like a couple of angels expecting a spotless presentation. At the moment I have a problem sitting down and I cannot find the sweeping brush!

Does anyone have any storage boxes as having mastered the washing machine a clothes mountain, well several, have appeared. Hopefully she won't look in the attic.

Day 51 - Sunday 12th Oct 2008

Wellington Day 25

In an English Country Garden

Margaret had a wonderful nights sleep (on her own ,I might add) I slept in the hall in case she decided to hurl herself down the stairs in the middle of the night....!

After breakfast we had a lazy morning catching up on the American episodes of Dancing With The Stars . Then a real treat some proper cooked food. A couple of sausages, bacon, eggs and beans, none of you namby-pamby gourmet hospital fare.

In the afternoon we sat out in the garden and Kal from work popped round to see her and had a good natter.

And Finally. I am sure you will be delighted with the progress Margaret is making and lacking a dog and the ability to do magic tricks; I now proudly present:- Video

And so back to hospital, no drama and no trauma. Thus begins another busy week.

Day 50 - Saturday 11th Oct 2008

Wellington Day 24

We are not amused.

Margaret started her home visit today.

This was not without its trials and tribulations. After the euphoria of receiving the news yesterday the 'head therapist' whom Margaret had not seen before came to see her at noon and announced that there would be no home visit. Needless to say Margaret was distraught at this news. One of the nurses then called me to inform me of this decision not the therapist.

Margaret was still very upset when I arrived 90 minutes later. The nurses had done their best to console her in my absence and it took me a while to convince her that she was coming home with me. After some discussion with the nursing staff, they spoke to the 'therapist' and told her I was taking Margaret out.

I fully understand the NURSEs position and their role and attach no blame to them. I Signed a safety waiver and left.

The reason I have published this is that so you know Margarets state of mind and to be aware that she may get emotional when you are talking to her.

Margaret soon cheered up once home and it was not long before I got my instructions on the washing and general housekeeping.

Nicola and Joseph came to pay a visit bringing some of Jason's homemade : pepper, pumpkin, pepper, carrot and pepper soup. This was followed by 4 cheese and peperoni pizzas supplied by myself.

In the afternoon we had watched Scotland dissapoint again in the football but a better display from England. Unfortunately we missed Wales's slaughter of the mighty Liechtenstein.

In the evening We had Strictley followed by the X-Factor. We left the results show until the morning.

It was Nice to be home

Day 49 Friday 10th Oct 2008

Wellington Day 23

Is there a Doctor in the House

It was a shorter visit today. Joseph was granda sitting for the evening and I had to pick him up after school and we did not arrive until 6:30.

Dr Sharma came to visit about 7:15 and we had a chat about Margaret spending the week-end at home. He took a lot of persuasion but we managed to convince him it would be a safe environment for the one night. He agreed as long as Margaret was fully supervised going up and down stairs. She has some therapy on Saturday morning and I will go and pick her up about 1:00pm and have her back by 8:00pm on Sunday.

All I have to do now is cut the grass, do the washing up, change the bed-sheets, hoover the carpets, wash the floor and oh - better buy some food

Day 48 Thursday 9th Oct 2008

Wellington Day 22

Any excuse to get out

It was a beautiful day today. I picked Margaret up just after lunch and we made our way to the Dentist. Margaret had a good chat with Marie while in the car and was thoroughly enjoying the drive.

The Dentist then spent about 45mins fitting a temporary post and re-attaching the crown. She will need to go back in 3/4 weeks to have a permanent fitting. I am sure she was trying to break her teeth on the beer bottle top deliberately in order to get out.

She now has her smile back and is very happy again.

Family dinner.

We then went home and as Christopher was still here, Nicola picked up Joseph and came over for dinner. We went for the healthy option of course. Lightly coated fish with accompanying golden potatoes seasonally dressed in sodium chloride and also a sour-tasting condiment and preservative prepared by two successive microbial processes. Basically Fish'nChips from the chip shop., with Jumbo sausage, battered sausage and a steak pie, washed down with a Zero coke. MMMMM

Day 47 Wednesday 8th October 2008

Wellington Day 21

Give me a break

After posting the telephone number margaret is now complaining that she cannot get a rest during her lunchbreak.. So please leave your phonecalls to after 5.00pm in the evening as she works so hard in the mornings that she needs a rest after lunch.

In an effort to do things by herself Margaret managed to dislodge a crown and now needs to go to the Dentist tomorrow.

She also had a little tumble in the bathroom, again trying to do too much late in the evening when she is tired. it just brings to the fore the reality that although she is making phenomenal progress sometimes she needs to slow things down.

This is on the back of the fact that she was outside with the physios in the morning walking 'unaided' aroung the building. possibly throwing her knickers over Pauls fence got her too excited, or was it him throwing them back with a brick attached that did the damage.

Day 46 - Tuesday 7th Oct 2008

Wellington Day 20

A well earned rest

On Tuesday, Dad ended 45 days of consecutive (and sometimes multiple) daily visits to the hospital to visit Mum, by taking the evening off. To be honest, I'm amazed he lasted so long without collapsing from exhaustion.

On a normal day, he'd be up at 08:00 and into work for 08:30, working through without a lunch break in order to finish at about 15:30 and get back home for 16:00. A quick bite to eat and gathering of Mum's necessities he then heads to the hospital (through some nasty rush hour traffic) to get there for about 17:00; followed by 3 or 4 circuits of the area looking for a parking space. After visiting for about 3 hours he makes the 1 hour journey home and just about has time for a cup of coffee and a bite to eat before bed, and the cycle begins again.

It was well overdue that he took an evening off, so in his stead Nicola and I went to visit and spend a couple of hours with Mum in the Wellington.

We arrived at 5:15pm, literally just as Mum had sat down in her chair to watch some TV. She was just back from an extra physiotherapy session where she had been put through her paces on the skiing machine; designed to help with leg and arm strength, as well as co-ordination.

Mum usually has her dinner around 18:15 and Nicola and I were getting a bit peckish ourselves (somewhat of an understatement), so we decided to see if we could get some food delivered to the hospital so we could all eat at the same time.

Nicola asked the nurses if they knew any good delivery places around, and was presented with a menu for the local Chinese; apparently the nurses use it quite often! The menu was extensive and covered not just Chinese, but Thai and Japanese too. Even better was that when Nicola called them they asked what floor we were on and what room number; they would deliver straight to the door!

Unfortunately, delivery took a bit longer than expected and Mum had polished off her steak & potatoes, followed by banana split, before ours arrived (believe me, there is absolutely nothing wrong with her appetite).

The Swimsuit Saga

When Dr. Sharma, Mum's senior consultant, visited late last week he suggested that Mum might enjoy some Hydrotherapy, as they have a pool in the hospital. Her first session has been organised for Friday afternoon, and so has begun the search for some suitable attire. Apparently, nothing Mum currently owns is suitable and, surprise-surprise, it's not so easy trying find a store that sells 'suitable' swimsuits this late in the season.

The usual outlets where you would expect to find this kind of thing all year round (Debenhams, Marks & Spencer, BHS) have very limited range and stock - as if everyone stops going swimming or going on holiday come October. Anyway, we've got just about 24 hours to try and track something down, or Mum'll be doing hydrotherapy in a tracksuit!

Day 45 - Monday 6th Oct 2008

Wellington Day 19

The Committee

This afternoon Margaret and I had a meeting with Dr Sharma and the full team of therapists. The consensus was that Margaret is doing really well and everyone is impressed by her progress.

Dr. Sharma was impressed by the progression in her speech and general mobility.

Treatment shall continue at the same pace with a look to Margaret coming home in about 3 weeks. !!!!!!

The therapist will arrange a home visit to assess what equipment may be required around the house, such as an extra handrail for the stairs. Once this is done then Margaret can have 'Trial Visits' with overnight stays.

Margaret is determined to be out in the 3 weeks, I doubt we could stop her now.

Watch this space.

For those of you who have been worried about me, well, I am having a night off on Tuesday to recharge. Nicola and Christopher will visit and Margaret can phone me at home.

The telephone number for the 6th floor is 0207 483 5036 and ask for room 660. Check the rota but generally between 1pm and 2pm is best or evenings. I will get Margaret to phone mum.

Day 44 - Sun 5th Oct 2008

Wellington Day 18

Hair raisin' experience

A new look

As you can see Margaret decided to have her hair trimmed to a uniform length. This was deftly and bravely done by Jason.

We had a smashing lunch again supplied and prepared by Jason, who said we men cannot multi-task.

The Girls

Day 43 - Sat 4th Oct 2008

Wellington Day 17

Wino's in the woods

Margaret, Nicola, with Celeine and Brennagh went down the high st to Harry Morgan's cafe for afternoon tea and a glass of wine. They brought back some delicious cakes and patisseries that we had after dinner. They were so rich that we had to take half of each home.

Margaret really enjoyed the visit. I came up later in the day with Joseph. I would have been earlier but Joseph had me traipsing around Londis shops looking for Match Attax cards only for him to tell me that they don't come out until the 9th! he thought the shop may get them earlier.

Tomorrow Margaret is coming home for lunch with the family

Rota W/C 04.10.2008

Next weeks rota. Click to enlarge

As you can see it is another fun packed schedule.

More work being done on the hand and arm each morning, plenty of therapy as she was getting bored in the afternoons and a dip in the pool on Friday

There is a Team meeting on Monday at 4:00 which I will attend.

Day 42 - Friday 3rd October 2008

Wellington Day 16

Dad and I went up early today and managed to park the car in a nearby road without having to circle 4 or 5 times.
Mum was practising writing and was very keen to show us her new rota for next week, there is a hydro therapy session on Friday, how exciting.

Phone Service
Mum called room service and ordered coffee for 3, she's getting good at this, but the waitress is severely under pressure :-(

Feeding Time
We decided to order a chinese takeaway, I couldn't sit through another night watching mum eat a 3 course meal, we ordered online but then got a call to say they didn't deliver to hospitals! S0 we had to find an alternative.....we're now friends of the "Peking Inn"

Gold Star
Mr Sharma visited tonight and was again very impressed with mum's progress especially her walking, all unassisted!
Mum no longer needs to buzz for the nurse when she needs a shower or to use the toilet....she's Mrs. Independent now.

We're looking forward to a girls coffee afternoon as soon as Celeine and Brennagh arrive.

Dad was also told to take home the lovely pasta that mum made yesterday...that's luch sorted for tomorrow.

Day 41 - Thursday 2nd October 2008

Wellington - Day 15

No News is Good News

It was one of those days.

Things are going well, and Margaret is getting stronger and fitter by the hour.

Christopher left at 7:00 to get the tube to the airport, which took 1hr 15mins and the plane was on time- a result. So Margaret and I had a night in watching the football.

I hear that Marks & Spencer's profits are down, I cannot understand how 'cause Margaret bought up ALL their tops. I thought I might try and put the iron inside the washing machine and see if the clothes come out pressed. I am sure it will work.

At the moment I am on the look out for left handed forks and spoons, let me know if you find any.

Thursday, October 2, 2008

Day 40 - Wednesday 1st Oct 2008

Wellington Day 14

Laundry Day

Since Mum has been in the Wellington she has been dressing in her own clothes, rather than a hospital gown. This, inevitably, has led to the need for washing.

Each week used clothes are taken away and replacements delivered - just like a real laundry service, except the person doing the washing is Dad.

Not being one to look 'wrinkled', Mum of course demands that her clothes are impeccably ironed, so rather than do this at home and risk ironing something that Mum doesn't really want - Dad brought up a bag full of tops and got Mum to select which she wanted. He then produced an iron, out of another bag, and proceeded to iron the selected tops, on the floor of the hospital room.

Once that was completed, he was handed another bundle of used clothes and the cycle begins again.

Freeview

Dad brought in a freeview box from home and I conected it to the TV in Mum's room. She now has a few extra channels to watch, including ITV4 (for the football).

Shopping trip to Tesco

Contrary to the previous entry, it is actually Thursday that Mum is going on her shopping trip to Tesco. Not sure what the budget is, but I'm sure she'll try and sneak some biccie's in there, to keep her visitors happy.

View from the balcony

Mum's hospital room is high-up on the 6th floor of the Wellington, and affords quite a nice view of the city.

Day 39 - Tuesday 30th Sept 2008

Wellington Day 13

The 39 Steps

Margaret was really bubbling today and you could sense the pride she took in her achievements as she was taken down two floors and had to then walk up and down Un-Assisted.

Also improving is her arm movement and she can now raise it up regularly to touch her nose.

The only setback is that her speech has improved so much that she is now telling everyone off, or giving orders to Nicola clean up the room or "leave it alone" to Christopher, referencing to the remote control.

She is looking forward to tomorrow when the therapist is taking her to Tesco Local to buy pasta and then go back to the kitchen to cook it. It was at this point that Margaret decided to tell us that she had already been to the kitchen to cook breakfast. Joseph will be able to have his pasta sauce on Thursdays again soon.

I was able to phone her today and we had a good chat at lunchtime when she told me she had a really good morning, was just having lunch and then an afternoon nap.

I think she deserves it....

Day 38 - Monday 29th Sept 2008

Wellington Day 12

Upping the Pace

Update on the rota with extra therapy on the arm scheduled for wednesday and friday.

She is going to be very tired after these sessions but they are paying dividends.

Also there is more specific learning as far as the speech is concerned so do not be surprised if you get a phonecall next week.

Margaret has been told that the physio will be taking her out for a walk later this week, without the wheelchair.

They may pop round the corner to Paul's house for tea.

Day 37 - Sunday 28th Sept 2008

Wellington day 11

Home for tea

As it was such a lovely day we decided to go out for a run and come home for tea.

Karen an Carl from next door popped in with some cream buns. Also to say that they were leaving for Australia at the end of October as Karen is having a baby in February.

We had a lovely afternoon.

Grandma related humour!

Cartoon

Brennagh found this quite funny cartoon on Bebo the other day; thought I might share it here.

Joke

The family wheeled Grandma out into the garden to enjoy the sunshine.
Grandma couldn't
talk very well but she could write notes when she needed to communicate.
After a short time out on the lawn Grandma started leaning off to the
right and some family members grabbed her and straightened her up and
stuffed pillows on her right.
A short time later she started leaning off to her left and again the family
grabbed her and stuffed pillows on her left.
Soon she started leaning forward and the family members again grabbed
her and tied a pillow case around her waist to hold her up.
Her grandson, who
arrived late, came running up to Grandma, "You're looking good, how are they treating you?"
Grandma took out her little notepad and slowly wrote, "They won't let me fart."

Day 36 - Saturday 27th Sept 2008

Wellington Day 10

Smokies to the Big Smoke

Today Geraldine and Tom came to visit from Arbroath on their way Cornwall.

We had a walk around the area with Margaret commenting on the big houses and cars in the area. We stopped off for a coffee at one of the many cafe's in the area, we were able to sit outside as it was a lovely day.

Margaret was very pleased to see them. I am sure they will add a comment once they get back from their caravan stay, and once their fingers have been treated for frostbite. Tom was sooooo looking forward to it.

Earlier in the day Margaret had a Speech session where she goes through practical things, like t-shirts, shoes etc.

Afterwards she settled down for her Strictly followed by X-Factor.

It was a happy but tiring day.

Friday, September 26, 2008

Day 35 - Friday 26th Sep 2008

Wellington Day 9

Striding On

Margaret is making great strides; literally. Today she had a small ankle brace fitted. This gives support to the ankle and lower calf. It makes a big difference as I had a job keeping up with her tonight.

Her right arm is getting stronger and she can bend it at the elbow up to touch her chin. Pumping iron next week.

She also met some other patients in the gym today and said they were very nice.

Nicola and Joseph came to visit, by train. I wish I had too, as the traffic was horrendous today, both ways, averaging 19mph according to the readout in my new car.

As you can see from the rota again another full week is planned

I had a mail from Tracy at Bupa to say that the reports they get from the medical staff at the Wellington are very good and encouraging.

Geraldine and Tom are due down tomorrow from Arbroath, via Sheffield!. I am sure Geraldine will update the blog for us. Look forward to seeing her.

Nicola is going camping for the night, so it will probably be wet tomorrow, :)

Day 34 - Thursday 25th Sep 2008

Wellington Day 8

Blah Blah Blah

Sorry for the delay, I only realised earlier this evening (Friday) that there was no update done.

I think because it was a day of consolidation rather that revelation that it slipped my mind. Nonetheless, Margaret is still making great progress.

She had a good chat with Marie on the phone, and actually talks a little better on the phone as she is more likely to answer spontaneously. She is still getting cards from people at work and I think it is time for some other visitors, hopefully later next week.

I for got to say that I took Margaret downstairs to see the new car and she sat in the drivers seat. Margaret had a little 'moment' for the first time and was upset that she could not drive away there and then. I am surprised that it has taken this long, but she has a fantastic spirit and determination.

The moment was broken however by a couple of drivers fighting for the parking space behind me. Guess what?.. The a$$hole bumped into MY NEW CAR.. He did not apologise, to be fair he did not actually get a chance to say anything as I let him off with a tut-tut-tut and a slight reprimand... or words to that effect. There was no actual damage done and he still has all his own teeth.

Poor Christopher. He only found out late-on about the ongoing problems at Heathrow and had to leave early ,6:45 to see about his flight which was showing as cancelled. His 9:10 flight did, in-fact, turn out to be cancelled and he was re booked onto the next outgoing flight which was due to depart at 10:30; this didn't actually leave until 11:30!

Have to update the activity rota for next week. will do that shortly.

Wednesday, September 24, 2008

Day 33 - Wednesday 24th Sep 2008

Wellington - Day 7

Quick change artist.

I've been over from Dublin, for a couple of days, every week and been in to visit Mum in the afternoons and evenings. This last week of physio in the Wellington has seen huge improvements, namely in the strength of her right leg; to such a degree that Mum can get herself out of bed, or a chair, unaided.

Until today I hadn't seen this momentous feat, so when I visited this evening and she did her party piece I just had to video it, so I could share it with you all.

Strictly Come Dancing - LIVE!

Mum has long been a fan of 'Strictly Come Dancing' and luckily her move to the Wellington coincided with the start of this years competition; now with a TV in her room she is able to enjoy it. Also, each evening, just after Mum has finished her dinner, she can sit down and enjoy the daily BBC 2 show 'It Takes Two'.

Knowing how much she loves the show Celeine and I decided
we would treat Mum (and Dad) by getting tickets for the forthcoming LIVE tour and, today, I presented mum with the good news in the form of this printed invitation.

Of course, Mum was overjoyed, especially when I informed her that the seats are in the 3rd row, and showed this by gleefully sounding out the 'Strictly' theme tune. The show is not 'til February '09, but it's something to really look forward to.

I have to say, each day I notice significant improvement, which I believe is a massive factor in keeping Mum's spirit's high; there's definitely light at the end of the tunnel and it's getting brighter every day.

Day 32 - Tuesday 23rd Sep 2008

Wellington day - 6

More of the same

Another good workout. Christopher on his weekly visit from Dublin noticed the big changes since he last saw her on Thursday. The change in her whole demeanour and how much more agile and animated she has become.

Margaret took great glee in informing Chris and Nicola, while I was trying to park the NEW car, about her trip to the Central building for the consultant to look at her ears, at last.

She was taken by ambulance, which she said very well, accompanied by a nurse the whole 400 yards. I think they took the long way round the block. She was wheeled in to reception past the 8/9 people waiting straight into the consulting rooms, she had a smug smile on her face about this.

Anyway joy of joys she can hear properly now.

Dr Sharma called in again and said that the reports from the therapists are extremely good and positive and she is doing really well.

I said that we would sneak her out for a run in the car on Sunday. Might have afternoon tea at home..SSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHH!

Day 31 - Monday 22nd Sep 2008

Wellington day 5

Back to school

^Click pictures to enlarge^

As you can see Margaret now has a fuller programme.

I arrived today just as Margaret went back to the gym.

Dale who is deputising for Una, is working on the leg movement and body posture. Margaret was able to stand erect without assistance and maintain her position.

Lisa (OT) was working on the arm. She can move the arm independantly up and down about 6 inches and also clench the fingers in a grip.

Lisa (SaLT) had her working on the family names and writing with her left hand.

Even the nurse, Louise, got in on the act by having Margaret call room service, by telephone, and order coffee for two.

Dr Sharma called in at about 5:30pm and asked Margaret to read the headlines from the newspaper - the Times of course.

Not bad for day 1. Tomorrow, as you can see, is another full day. Plus, Margaret is being taken to the main building at 15:30 to have her ears suctioned, so she is going to be a happy bunny.

ROTA - W/C 22/09/2008

Margaret's Rota for the week - click photo to enlarge

NB the Speach and Language Therapy is still to be added.
Maybe its the environment or my good coaching as she has not had any treatment yet but she can stand unaided, walk to the bathroom-with assistance, grasp with her right hand and tell me to bogger orf, I will be demanding a refund.

Day 30 - Sunday 21st Sep 2008

Wellington Day 4

Ladies (and Men) that Lunch

There's no Stopping Mum now..she has a tracksuit and a wheel chair now she's off. Jason and Joseph came to visit and we popped down to St. Johns Wood High Street to find a coffee shop...on the way we passed the ex-Arsenal and England Footballer, Paul Merson.

We stopped off at Carluccios's for a basket of bread and a bowl of olives and of course a Latte or two.

We then rushed back to the Hotel, sorry Hospital, for mum's lunch...roast lamb and veg with a chocolate fudge cake to finish.

Whilst mum was eating Joseph was amusing himself.....I did try the bed myself and ended up setting off the alarm and was caught red handed by the nurse :-(

Joseph also mastered his parrallel parking in time for the Man Utd and Chelsea game whilst mum took a breather on the ventolin.....

Saturday, September 20, 2008

Day 29 - Saturday 20th Sep 2008

Wellington - day 3

Romeo Romeo wherefor...

The view from the balcony. I have been reliably informed that Paul McCartney's house is next to the white house behind the red tree, honest

Georgia, the Occupational Therapist, came in at noon to show Margaret and Nicola how best to operate the wheelchair and took them down St John's Wood High St. She had Margaret practicing speaking out the names of the shops; her favourite is Orland & Barnets - work it out. They then went for a stroll round the park.

I, in the interim, had spent several hours getting some new pyjamas and jogging trousers and explaining to several staff, when I counld find them, in Debenhams, Marks, C&A, Matalan and a fancy lingerie place why I was dismantling the bra's in their displays. Do you know how difficult it is to find a sports style bra that does not have clip fastenings at the back. By the way Marks had a good deal on with a twin pack for £16.....

Anyway even trying the sports shops I eventually found ( 1 ) in the correct style, which I bought, but not surprisingly it didn't fit. The only cup I am interested in now is one with coffee in it.

Nicola and Margaret decide on Sundays Lunch and dinner.

This preamble leads me to the highlight of the day, or maybe the second, you decide.

Margaret wanted her photograph taken out on the balcony and, as you can see, she rose to the ocassion. I am sure you will have a large smile when you see the photograph.

Good news 2> Margaret surprised herself tonight when she sat on the chair, after a spell on the balcony, and instintively crossed her legs, right knee over left knee, and she was estatic.
It was a funny moment. I videoed her doing it again and will try later to upload it

Video to follow
Tea time again.. She nearly choked on her melon starter when I lifted the silver cover off her main course; there was a WHOLE chicken, with the trimmings.

So she ate heartily while watching Strictly Come Dancing, her favourite programme.

Finally I got my orders for the washing I had to take home, what she wanted brought up and find the hoover, I told her I lost it !
